Gyeongju City announced on July 31 that two local Hanwoo cattle farms achieved a remarkable feat by winning both first and second place in the 'Fattening Period Reduction' category at the 28th National Hanwoo Performance Evaluation Contest.
This contest was hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and organized by the National Hanwoo Performance Evaluation Contest Promotion Council. It was divided into three categories: 'Fattening Period Reduction,' 'Unbred Heifers,' and 'Main Contest.'
Among these, the 'Fattening Period Reduction' category (shipment, slaughter, and auction) was held for three days from July 28 to July 30 at the Nonghyup Eumseong Livestock Market. A total of 53 farms from across the country participated in fierce competition.
As a result, Cheonnyeon Farm in Gyeongju (represented by Jeon Gwangsik) won first place and received the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award, while Daeji Farm (represented by Choi Samho) took second place and received the President of the National Hanwoo Association Award. These achievements once again highlighted the status of Gyeongju's Hanwoo industry nationwide.
The city evaluated that these awards are the result of the 'Gyeongju Hanwoo Quality and Brand Competitiveness Enhancement Project,' which is being promoted as a pledge project of the 8th popularly elected administration. The effectiveness and practical applicability of related policies are being proven through awards at various competitions.
Joo Nakyoung, Mayor of Gyeongju, stated, "This award is the result of the continuous efforts and systematic management by Hanwoo farms," and added, "We will continue to provide administrative and technical support to further enhance the quality competitiveness of Gyeongju Hanwoo."
