It has been found that one out of every two logistics warehouses in Gyeonggi Province is vulnerable to fire safety.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on July 31 that, as a result of inspecting 177 large logistics warehouses in the province over a two-month period from May 26 to July 30, fire safety deficiencies were found in 73 locations.
This inspection was conducted as an emergency measure following the large-scale fire at a logistics warehouse in Icheon in May.

The Fire and Disaster Headquarters deployed 36 inspection teams, totaling 144 personnel, across the province to check major risk factors such as: the proper functioning of fire protection systems; the maintenance of evacuation and fire prevention facilities and fire compartments; and the implementation of management and self-inspection requirements. Fire safety management training for related personnel was also conducted in parallel.
Through this inspection, the headquarters identified deficiencies at 73 locations and issued a total of 86 corrective actions, including 8 fines, 73 corrective orders, 3 notifications to relevant agencies, and 2 administrative dispositions.
Kim Jaebyung, head of the Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "Large logistics warehouses are at high risk of large-scale casualties and property damage in the event of a fire due to the storage of high fire load items such as cardboard boxes and textiles, narrow passageways, and minimal night staffing. We will not only conduct regular inspections of fire protection systems, but also provide training to raise safety management awareness among related personnel."
Meanwhile, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters is currently taking follow-up measures, such as imposing fines and issuing corrective orders to the responsible parties, based on the results of this inspection.
