Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do announced on July 31 that it will accept applications on a first-come, first-served basis for participation in the "25th Suncheon Nam Seungryong Marathon," which will be held on November 8. The application period is from August 1 to October 17.


The "Nam Seungryong Marathon" is hosted by Suncheon City and organized by the Suncheon Sports Association, taking place at Palma Sports Complex and throughout Suncheon. The total number of participants will be 7,000, divided by event as follows: 500 for the full course, 900 for the half course, 2,600 for the 10km course, and 3,000 for the 5km course.


The full course starts at Palma Sports Complex, passes through the Ecological Culture Education Center, Eco Village, and Suncheonman Wetland, and turns back at Hwapo Village. The half course starts at Palma Sports Complex, goes through the Ecological Culture Education Center and Eco Village, and turns back at Suncheonman Wetland. The 10km course starts at Palma Sports Complex, passes Nam Seungryong-ro, Ocheon Samgeori, and Eoullim Gymnasium, and turns back at the lower part of Pungdeokgyo Bridge. The 5km course starts at Palma Sports Complex, passes the Ecological Culture Education Center, and turns back at Suncheonman Job World.


Eligibility requirements are as follows: participants in the full and half courses must be men or women aged 18 or older; the 10km course is open to middle school students and above; the 5km course is open to all ages. However, preschool children must be accompanied by a guardian.


Meanwhile, the Nam Seungryong Marathon has been held successfully since 2001 to honor the national spirit of the late Nam Seungryong, a native of Suncheon who inspired pride in the Korean people by winning a bronze medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
