The Gifu International Rose Competition, now in its 23rd year, is a globally prestigious rose contest. It is officially certified by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) and hosted by the Japan World Rose Garden. Renowned rose breeding companies from around the world, including David Austin from the United Kingdom, Delbard from France, and Kordes from Germany, participate in this competition every year.
This year, experts evaluated approximately 50 rose varieties submitted from various countries, conducting meticulous observation and judging over the past two years before announcing the recent winners. As a result, Everland's rose variety, Pink Pastry, received high scores in the comprehensive evaluation, which assessed nine categories including fragrance, disease resistance, repeat blooming, and vigor, earning the bronze award.
In addition, Pink Pastry also received the "Rose Hill Award," a special prize given to the rose with the most outstanding fragrance, achieving the honor of winning two awards. The award ceremony will be held this October at the World Rose Garden in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Pink Pastry is a pink garden rose developed by Everland after five years of research starting in 2014. It is characterized by its sweet yet refreshing scent and over 100 densely layered petals. Its appearance, reminiscent of a pastry, inspired the name "Pink Pastry."
This is not the first time an Everland rose has won at an international competition. Starting with Garden Everscape (silver award and special prize) in 2021, followed by Perfume Everscape (gold award and three special prizes) in 2022, Carnival Everscape (bronze award) in 2024, and now Pink Pastry (bronze award and special prize) this year, a total of four varieties have won nine trophies, showcasing the excellence of K-roses to the world.
In particular, Perfume Everscape was featured in an SCIE-level international academic journal last year for its outstanding photoaging prevention and antioxidant properties. It recently began sales in Japan, marking the first time a domestic garden rose has successfully entered an overseas market.
Ha Hosu, a professional in charge of rose variety development at Everland, stated, "It is very meaningful that Everland roses have continuously won awards at world-class rose competitions," and added, "We will continue to work hard to promote the excellence of K-roses both domestically and internationally."
Everland’s roses, including the newly crowned double award winner Pink Pastry, will be in full bloom this fall at the Everland Rose Garden, where visitors can enjoy their splendid display.
