Repeated water pipe leakage incidents at the Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2 construction site are causing concern among citizens.

According to the Gwangju Waterworks Headquarters on July 31, a water pipe leakage occurred at around 6:17 a.m. at the construction site for Section 2 of Phase 1 of Urban Railway Line 2 in Geumho-dong, Seo-gu.

During excavation work, soil pressure caused the water pipe to become dislodged, resulting in a large-scale leakage. As a result, the construction site, nearby roads, and commercial buildings were flooded.

Authorities responded to the report and shut off the water pipe within 40 minutes, then began restoration work. Fortunately, water was supplied through an alternative pipe, minimizing inconvenience to residents.

Previously, on April 29, 300 tons of water leaked at the Urban Railway construction site in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu. On October 26 last year, a large-scale leakage of 800 tons occurred at the construction site in Pungyang-dong, Buk-gu.

An official from the Gwangju Waterworks Headquarters stated, "Water pipe damage incidents have been recurring during the construction of Urban Railway Line 2," and added, "We will make every effort to restore service quickly and minimize inconvenience to citizens."
