On July 31, the chicken brand bhc, operated by Dining Brands Group, announced that it had won the Winner award in the Brand & Communication Design category at the 2025 Red Dot Design Award. This marks the first time a Korean chicken franchise has received this award.
The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world's top three design awards and is organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany. Each year, the award evaluates over 18,000 entries from more than 70 countries in three categories: Product Design, Brand & Communication Design, and Design Concept. Winners are selected based on a comprehensive assessment of innovation and design excellence.
bhc explained, "Last June, we completely renewed our packaging under the concept of 'The First Step for the Earth.' We applied eco-friendly materials to our chicken packaging, which is used more than 70,000 times a day, including FSC-certified recycled paper, biodegradable coatings that decompose within three months, and soy-based ink."
bhc estimates that this eco-friendly packaging can save up to approximately 150,000 trees and 180 million liters of water annually. The packaging was highly praised for visually conveying the brand's philosophy of sustainability and for achieving tangible environmental protection effects, going beyond its role as simple packaging material.
Jung Chanjin, Director of Design at Dining Brands Group, stated, "This project was completed through the organic collaboration of multiple departments, including not only design but also purchasing and marketing, based on the group's commitment to environmental issues." He added, "We will continue our efforts to visually express our brand philosophy and effectively communicate its values in the future."
