Jeollanam-do to Strengthen Safety at All Stages of Healthy Food Production

Strengthening Residual Pesticide Testing at Each Stage from Production to Shipment
Enhancing Consumer Trust in Local Agricultural Products

Jeollanam-do to Strengthen Safety at All Stages of Healthy Food Production On-site mandatory training for eco-friendly agriculture certified producers. Provided by Jeonnam Province

Jeollanam-do is strengthening safety management measures, such as residual pesticide testing, at every stage from production to shipment of eco-friendly agricultural products to ensure their safety and build consumer trust.

As the largest supplier of eco-friendly agricultural products in Korea, producing over 50% of the nation’s total, Jeollanam-do plans to reinforce its safety verification system with two to three layers of checks to secure the trust of consumers in major metropolitan areas, including the Seoul metropolitan area.

Accordingly, in the first stage, soil, water quality, and residual pesticide tests are conducted even before crop cultivation begins. In the second stage, during cultivation, pest and disease control technology training is provided to ensure thorough management in accordance with the eco-friendly agriculture manual. In the third stage, prior to shipment, Jeollanam-do will expand residual pesticide testing, including making it mandatory for public stockpiled eco-friendly rice farms, to ensure that only healthy and safe agricultural products are supplied.

By establishing an integrated messaging system, Jeollanam-do will actively promote key certification compliance requirements?such as the advance notification system for joint pest and disease control and the use of organic agricultural materials?to 21,000 eco-friendly farmers.

Pest control companies that have caused administrative sanctions by mixing synthetic pesticides will be restricted from participating in eco-friendly agriculture projects.

Kim Youngseok, head of the Eco-friendly Agriculture Division of Jeollanam-do, stated, "Changing farmers’ perceptions is crucial for the spread of low-carbon, eco-friendly agriculture," and added, "We will enhance the substance of eco-friendly agriculture and meticulously manage every stage from production to distribution to secure consumer trust."
