A tropical night is defined as a situation where the minimum temperature remains at 25 degrees Celsius or higher between 6:01 p.m. of the previous day and 9:00 a.m. of the following day. It is generally used as an indicator of heat that disrupts sleep because the temperature does not drop sufficiently overnight.

The cumulative number of tropical nights this year is 26 days in Jeju, 28 days in Seogwipo, 15 days in Seongsan, and 18 days in Gosan. The Meteorological Administration explained that the tropical night continued, especially along the coastal areas, because the temperature did not drop sufficiently overnight.

The daytime heat is expected to become even more intense. Currently, a heat wave warning is in effect for the northern and western parts of Jeju, while a heat wave advisory is in effect for the southern, eastern, and mid-mountain regions. The Meteorological Administration advised people to take care of their health, as the maximum perceived temperature is expected to reach around 33 degrees Celsius for the time being.
