"Democratic Party Trying to Overturn Lee Hwayoung's Guilty Verdict"
Calls for Expulsion of 10 Lawmakers Including Park Chandae, Jung Chungrae, and Kim Byungki
On July 31, Representative Joo Jinwoo, who is running for the leadership of the People Power Party, announced, "I am submitting a resolution calling for the expulsion of 10 Democratic Party lawmakers, including Park Chan-dae, who has defended the fact that Lee Hwa-young, the Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor, secretly delivered $8 million to North Korea."

Through a media notice that morning, Representative Joo explained, "During the process of promoting Lee Jaemyung's visit to North Korea as the then-Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Vice Governor Lee Hwa-young secretly delivered $8 million to North Korea through Ssangbangwool, and the Supreme Court has confirmed a heavy sentence of 7 years and 8 months in prison."
Representative Joo pointed out, "By secretly delivering money to North Korea, there was a risk that it could have been diverted to North Korea's nuclear and missile development. This act simultaneously violated United Nations (UN) sanctions against North Korea and independent U.S. sanctions, thereby causing diplomatic and security isolation for South Korea."
He continued, "Nevertheless, the Democratic Party has created a 'Political Prosecution Fabricated Indictment Response Task Force' to try to overturn the confirmed guilty verdict of Vice Governor Lee Hwa-young and is continuing its improper attempts to eliminate the ongoing trial of President Lee Jaemyung."
He added, "I am submitting a resolution calling for the expulsion of those who defended the actions of Vice Governor Lee Hwa-young, who has been found guilty of acts that effectively benefited North Korea and were close to treason."
The lawmakers named by Representative Joo as targets for expulsion are Democratic Party lawmakers Han Junho, Choi Kisang, Lee Geontae, Kim Gipyo, Park Sunwon, Yang Bunam, and Jeon Yonggi, who are members of the Political Prosecution Fabricated Indictment Response Task Force, as well as party leaders Park Chan-dae and Jung Chungrae, candidates for party leader, and Kim Byungki, floor leader. The resolution is scheduled to be submitted in the afternoon of the same day.
