"Gwangju Student Independence Movement, Remembered Through Artifacts"


The Gwangju Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall is searching for fragments of forgotten history. On July 31, the Memorial Hall announced that it will publicly purchase artifacts related to the Gwangju Student Independence Movement to secure historical materials. Eligible items include personal materials such as diaries, letters, memoirs, prison records, photographs, and everyday belongings, as well as documents related to student organizations and secret societies, publications and books published before the 1970s, and literature or daily artifacts connected to schools and students in Gwangju from 1900 to 1945.


Anyone, including individuals, organizations, and cultural heritage dealers, can apply without regional restrictions. Applications will be accepted from August 19 to 22. Email submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. on August 22, and registered mail (addressed to: Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall, 30 Haksaengdongnip-ro, Seo-gu, Gwangju, c/o Heritage Officer, Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education) will be valid if postmarked by the deadline.


Artifacts eligible for purchase will be finally selected through evaluation by a professional review committee and in-person inspection.
