Through this program, young people selected for specialized fields among administrative interns will serve as customized basic learning instructors and emotional mentors for 40 elementary and middle school students in the district during the vacation period (from July 22 to August 13). The program runs five days a week (Monday to Friday), with two-hour sessions each in the morning (10 AM to 12 PM) and afternoon (1 PM to 3 PM).
Yangcheon-gu has selected a total of 50 administrative interns for the second half of 2025, of which 10 young people have been appointed as learning mentors. These mentors are assigned to regional hubs such as community centers and youth reading rooms, each taking charge of two to three mentees to provide individual counseling and tailored lessons over a four-week period.
Yangcheon-gu stated, "This project offers students the opportunity to supplement subjects they struggled with during the vacation and to learn effective study methods," adding, "It also helps reduce the private education expenses for parents, providing practical support."
One administrative intern who participated as a mentor shared, "Through conversations with my mentees, I gained new perspectives and, by organizing and delivering my knowledge systematically, I discovered strengths in myself that I had not realized before." The intern added, "Although the relationship felt awkward and burdensome at first, it gradually turned into trust, and I felt proud seeing my mentee take another step toward their goals."
Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, "When young people teach local children and the children gain confidence through the experience, Yangcheon becomes a warmer community." He added, "We will continue to promote policies that help strengthen youth capabilities and support their career choices."
