Six Months of Free Rental Housing Provided to Households Affected by Heavy Rainfall
On July 30, the city of Uijeongbu in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Donggeun) announced that it had signed an agreement with the Gyeonggi Northern Regional Headquarters of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) to provide housing support for flood victims, becoming the first in the northern Gyeonggi region to do so. Under this agreement, the city is offering free rental housing to affected households.

This agreement is a proactive measure to ensure housing stability for two households (four families) who became disaster victims after a single-family house in Gosan-dong collapsed due to heavy rainfall on July 20.
Immediately after the incident, the city restricted access to the site and assisted with the emergency evacuation of the victims. In addition to on-site inspections, an emergency safety assessment was conducted by structural experts. As the building was deemed uninhabitable, the city notified the affected households on July 24 that they must evacuate and could no longer use the premises. When the relocation of the affected families was delayed, the city responded swiftly to provide alternative housing solutions.
Accordingly, on July 28, the city signed a housing support agreement with the LH Gyeonggi Northern Regional Headquarters, and four rental housing units managed by LH within Uijeongbu were provided to the affected residents.
The provided rental units can be occupied for six months without any deposit or monthly rent, and residents can extend the contract if they wish.
This agreement is the first housing measure for flood victims in the northern Gyeonggi region and is being recognized as a leading example of a prompt and systematic collaboration model between local governments and public institutions.
Uijeongbu City plans to continue close cooperation with public institutions and maintain a rapid response system to prepare for various disasters in the future.
Mayor Kim Donggeun stated, "This agreement is the result of prioritizing the lives and safety of our citizens and responding proactively in a crisis situation." He also emphasized, "In particular, the swift measures taken through the organic cooperation of the Gosan-dong Community Center, the Citizens Safety Division, and the Housing Division demonstrate that all public officials recognize safety as their responsibility."
