The KOSPI index continued its upward trend for the sixth consecutive trading day, reaching its highest point in over four years.
On July 30, the KOSPI closed at 3,254.47, up 23.9 points (0.74%) from the previous day. During the session, it reached an intraday high of 3,269.4, setting a new annual record. In terms of closing price, this is the highest level since August 2021.
On this day, trading volume was provisionally tallied at 335.65 million shares, with a trading value of 12.876 trillion won. By investor type, institutions and foreign investors recorded net purchases of 330.5 billion won and 580.2 billion won, respectively, while individual investors posted a net sale of 984.5 billion won. In the futures market, institutions recorded a net sale of 530.5 billion won, while foreign investors and individuals posted net purchases of 423.5 billion won and 136.7 billion won, respectively. In program trading, there was a net purchase of 33.7 billion won in arbitrage trading, and a net sale of 2.2 billion won in non-arbitrage trading.
By sector, more sectors rose than fell. Non-metallic minerals rose by 3.29%, electronics by 1.81%, medical precision by 1.29%, telecommunications by 1.13%, manufacturing by 1.03%, distribution by 0.93%, insurance by 0.72%, transportation equipment by 0.68%, pharmaceuticals by 0.46%, transportation and storage by 0.46%, finance by 0.41%, food, beverage and tobacco by 0.12%, and paper and wood by 0.11%. On the other hand, the entertainment and culture sector fell by 1.71%, electric and gas by 1.45%, and construction by 1.24%.
Most of the top market cap stocks rose. Samsung Electronics gained 2.83%, SK hynix 0.38%, LG Energy Solution 0.26%, Samsung Biologics 0.92%, Hyundai Motor 2.29%, Kia 4.45%, KB Financial Group 1.35%, and Celltrion 0.78%. Conversely, Hanwha Aerospace fell by 2.1%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries by 0.53%, and Doosan Enerbility by 2.15%.
The number of advancing stocks was 476, while the number of declining stocks was 408, and 51 stocks remained unchanged. One stock hit the upper price limit.
The KOSDAQ index ended the session slightly lower. The KOSDAQ closed at 803.67, down 0.78 points (0.1%) from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and individuals posted net sales of 15.5 billion won and 8.1 billion won, respectively, while foreign investors posted a net purchase of 45.6 billion won.
Among the top market cap stocks, more declined than rose. Alteogen fell by 1.1%, Peptron by 3.68%, HLB by 1.94%, PharmaResearch by 3.0%, Samchundang Pharm by 7.36%, LIG ChemBio by 3.02%, and ABL Bio by 5.26%. In contrast, Ecopro BM and Ecopro rose by 4.0% and 2.2%, respectively, while Rainbow Robotics gained 4.46% and Hugel rose by 0.15%.
Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,382.3 won, down 7.4 won from the previous day.
