A Total of 67 Zones Designated in 32 Local Governments Nationwide, Including Ulju County
Ulsan Ulju County has been designated as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '3rd Drone Special Liberalization Zone,' marking its third consecutive selection and further establishing its status as a standard city for drones.
On July 29, Ulju County was designated as the '3rd Drone Special Liberalization Zone' and will carry out drone demonstration projects for two years until 2027.
The Drone Special Liberalization Zone is a system that significantly relaxes or exempts various regulations to promote the demonstration and commercialization of the drone industry, serving as a foundation for various national public projects.
This third round of drone special zones includes a total of 67 zones in 32 local governments nationwide, including Ulju County. The designation will last for two years from the date of designation until July 28, 2027.
The designated area in this third round covers 407 km² (Zone 1: 172 km², Zone 2: 235 km²), which is more than half of Ulju County's total area. The Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency will participate as the lead organization, and together with seven business operators, a total of 14 demonstration projects will be carried out across four sectors.
The main projects include: △Aerospace Defense (hyper-connected control, K-drone delivery, integrated defense, drone detection), △Safe City (AI wildfire monitoring, AI safety monitoring, illegal sea fishing monitoring), △Ecosystem Creation (drone pilot qualification training, drone experience education), and △Drone Services (mountain rescue, urban management, crime prevention, crop diagnosis, radiation measurement services).
County Mayor Lee Soongeol stated, "Ulju County's third consecutive designation as a drone special zone is the result of ongoing efforts and achievements in developing the drone industry," and added, "We will lead innovation as a standard drone city that pioneers the future of Korea based on scientific administration and advanced industries utilizing drones."
With its third consecutive designation as a drone special zone, Ulju County has achieved notable results in solving urban issues, improving resident convenience, and fostering advanced industries through various drone demonstration projects. It has set records for the highest and most achievements in areas such as budget, commercialization, and demonstration content, leading to benchmarking by other local governments and public institutions.
In particular, by supporting the demonstration of drone service models within urban areas, Ulju County is creating tangible changes for residents in logistics delivery, tourism, safety, and administration using drones.
