Arrested 24 Hours After the Crime
Suspect Discarded Mobile Phone and Fled Using Both Motorcycle and Car
At 12:08 p.m. on the 29th, a man in his 20s who killed his ex-girlfriend, a woman in her 30s, and fled the scene was apprehended by the police in Daejeon 24 hours after his escape.
The Daejeon Seobu Police Station announced that at around 12:00 p.m. on the 30th, they urgently arrested Mr. A (in his 20s), who is suspected of murder, at an underpass in Sanseong-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon.
Mr. A, who had been fleeing using a vehicle, attempted to ingest poison inside his car just before being arrested, but it was confirmed that his life is not in danger.
The police tracked Mr. A's movements by analyzing footage from closed-circuit (CC) TV, confirming that he alternated between using a car and a motorcycle while on the run.
Mr. A is suspected of stabbing and killing Ms. B, a woman in her 30s, at 12:08 p.m. the previous day on the street in front of her residence in Goejeong-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon.
Ms. B was transported to a nearby hospital in cardiac arrest by emergency paramedics who responded to the scene, but ultimately died.
Based on the mobile phone that Mr. A abandoned at the crime scene, the police confirmed that the two had been in a romantic relationship that had ended, and also investigated Mr. A's whereabouts by questioning his family and acquaintances.
It was found that prior to this crime, Mr. A had been reported to the 112 emergency center four times between November last year and last month for reasons including assaulting Ms. B.
Mr. A was reported for property damage and trespassing, and last month, he was confirmed to have assaulted Ms. B and caused a disturbance at a convenience store near her residence.
A police official stated, "We plan to investigate Mr. A in detail regarding the motive for the crime and other related circumstances."
