Mayor Lee Mingeun: "We will build an inclusive city where people from diverse backgrounds can live together"
On July 29, the city of Ansan in Gyeonggi Province held an opening ceremony for the 'Welfare Community Center' built at 516-10 Wolpi-dong, Sangnok-gu, and announced on July 30 that it has begun operations.
The center was established as part of the Ansan Wolpi Urban Regeneration Project, which was selected for a public contest in 2018. It serves as a space to expand basic living infrastructure and provide welfare services in the Wolpi-dong area, which has experienced stagnation.

The building has a total floor area of 1,791 square meters, spanning from one basement level to four above-ground floors. It houses the Ansan Housing Welfare Center, the Wolpi Community Value Center, and the Ansan Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities.
The Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities is responsible for enhancing the social adaptability of individuals with developmental disabilities by operating a customized educational system for each stage of life. It offers educational programs such as specialized classes and community participation classes for people with developmental disabilities aged 18 and older.
The Wolpi Community Value Center is the 16th location of Ansan's 'Together Care Center,' which aims to address the gap in after-school care for elementary school students in the area. It provides after-school and vacation care services to all elementary students in need, regardless of income level. The center has a capacity of 25 children and is operated by the Filament Welfare Foundation under a consignment agreement.
The Housing Welfare Center is responsible for providing housing welfare counseling and information, implementing housing improvement support projects for vulnerable groups, and identifying new beneficiaries among the vulnerable population.
Lee Min-geun, the mayor of Ansan, stated, "A central space where all residents of Wolpi-dong can enjoy a variety of welfare services has now opened," and added, "We will continue to build an inclusive city where people from diverse backgrounds can live together in harmony."
