Jeollanam-do held the 8th International Climate Energy Forum at the Shinan Beach Hotel in Mokpo for two days until July 30, seeking directions for the province in line with the transition to a renewable energy-centered society.
On this day, the forum was attended by more than 500 domestic and international energy experts, industry leaders, and policy officials, who shared a variety of proposals and solutions for the "Leap to a Global Energy Hub."
In particular, discussions focused on responding to the climate crisis and transforming the energy industry structure. Topics included the creation of an Asia-Pacific offshore wind power hub, the establishment of an equipment cluster and global supply chain, the attraction of RE100 industrial complexes and the Ministry of Climate and Energy, and the introduction of basic energy income.
Kim Yungrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, emphasized, "The climate crisis is no longer just an environmental issue; it is a matter of industry, economy, and balanced regional development, which directly connects to national competitiveness. Through renewable energy such as offshore wind power in Jeollanam-do, we will create a 'Southwestern Energy Innovation Growth Belt with a population of 500,000,' which will include an AI super cluster and RE100 industrial complex, and usher in the era of 1 trillion won in basic energy income."
Jeollanam-do is building an offshore wind power industry ecosystem that connects equipment production, assembly, transportation, and maintenance, based on abundant offshore wind resources and highly accessible port infrastructure. The province also plans to expand the investment base for domestic and international eco-friendly companies by attracting RE100 industrial complexes.
