A man in his 50s who attacked a neighboring butcher shop owner with a blunt weapon in Gwangju and fled the scene was found dead in the sea near a port in Muan.
According to Mokpo Coast Guard and other authorities on July 30, a man in his 50s, referred to as A, struck the head of a butcher shop owner in his 50s, referred to as B, once with a blunt weapon at a butcher shop in Geumho-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, at around 11:00 a.m. on July 27.
A, who also runs another butcher shop nearby, immediately left the scene and fled to Muan-gun, South Jeolla Province, where his mother resides.
After receiving a report and launching a search, the police found A in the sea near a port in Muan-gun at 1:41 a.m. on July 28. A was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest by firefighters but was pronounced dead. No external injuries or signs of crime were found on A's body.
The Gwangju Seobu Police Station has closed the case against A, who was charged with special assault, as "no right of prosecution" due to his death, and the Mokpo Coast Guard will handle the case as an unattended death.
