Gwangmyeong City Finalizes Selection of 'Gwangmyeong 9 Attractions' as Local Tourist Destinations

This selection of the Gwangmyeong 9 Attractions was carried out to newly designate representative tourist destinations that reflect the city's identity and representativeness, in line with the changed urban environment and tourism trends since the selection of the 'Gwangmyeong 8 Attractions' in 2011. Previously, starting in April, the city conducted a process of discovering and selecting candidate sites, followed by a preference survey among citizens, and finalized the destinations through this review.

The selected sites are: Gwangmyeong Cave, Gwangmyeong Traditional Market, Dodeoksan Suspension Bridge, Gwangmyeong Anyangcheon, Gwangmyeong Station (high-speed rail), Chunghyeon Museum, Gi Hyeongdo Literary Museum, Anteo Ecological Park, and Saebit Park·Jagyeong Retention Basin.

Among the selected sites, those that received high scores in the citizen preference survey were Gwangmyeong Cave, Gwangmyeong Traditional Market, Dodeoksan Suspension Bridge, Gwangmyeong Anyangcheon, and Gwangmyeong Station.

Chunghyeon Museum, the nation's first clan museum preserving the heritage and artifacts of Lee Wonik and his descendants, and the Gi Hyeongdo Literary Museum, which exhibits literary materials of the poet Gi Hyeongdo, were highly praised by the committee as symbolic spaces that represent the city's vision of becoming a cultural city.

Anteo Ecological Park, home to the endangered gold-spotted pond frog, and Saebit Park·Jagyeong Retention Basin, created by relocating the sewage treatment plant underground, were recognized not only in the preference survey but also by the committee as representative sites of Gwangmyeong City's carbon neutrality and garden city policies, and were therefore included.

Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong City, said, "We plan to develop various tourism contents centered on the Gwangmyeong 9 Attractions and expand both online and offline promotions as well as programs to attract tourists," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that these sites become representative attractions of Gwangmyeong where citizens and tourists can enjoy and create lasting memories together."
