Comprised of Three Subcommittees:
Technology, Planning, and Public Relations

The Korea Startup Forum (KOSPO) announced on July 30 that the MICE Tech Industry Council has been launched and is beginning its official activities.

The council held its kickoff meeting and launch event on July 15 at Maru360 in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Thirteen startups, including GroundK, participated in the event. The council has committed to operate as a private sector-led alliance focused on driving digital transformation and regulatory innovation within the MICE industry.

Jang Dongwon, CEO of GroundK, was elected as the chair of the council. To ensure efficient operation, the council established three subcommittees: the Technology Subcommittee (headed by Ahn Younghak, CEO of Eventus), the Planning Subcommittee (headed by Hwang Sungmin, CEO of OpenerDOC), and the Public Relations Subcommittee (headed by Lee Hyunjin, CEO of MICE Link). Professor Yoon Younghye of Dongduk Women's University will participate as an advisor to support the council's future strategic direction.

The council plans to promote the digital transformation of the MICE industry based on expertise gained from real-world experience and the autonomy of the private sector, and to strengthen global competitiveness for sustainable development.

The council's specific goals are: digital innovation in the MICE industry; building inter-industry networks and discovering collaborative models; and making policy proposals, improving regulations, and holding roundtable discussions with the government and related organizations. As a private sector-led policy platform driven by startups, the council aims to expand effective points of contact with government policies.

Koo Taeon, Vice Chair of KOSPO, stated, "We hope that the government and local authorities will redefine the MICE industry as a strategic sector and that, through regulatory easing and institutional improvement, a Korean-style MICE model with global competitiveness will be created."
