On July 30, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Morals Crime Investigation Team announced that 54 individuals, including operators of "room salons" and street solicitors, have been sent to the prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Acts of Arranging Sexual Traffic and the Food Sanitation Act, among others.
According to the police, these individuals are accused of soliciting customers and arranging prostitution not only on sidewalks but also by encroaching onto the road in the entertainment district of Garak-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, last year.
The police stated that after conducting planned crackdowns in the area in November last year and between April and May this year, they have determined that such soliciting activities are no longer taking place at present.
A police official said, "Soliciting customers is a crime that invades daily life and undermines public order, and we will remain vigilant to prevent its recurrence."
