Comprehensive entertainment company NSE&M is accelerating its efforts to enter the domestic animation market with the Chinese animated film "Nezha 2."
On July 30, NSE&M announced that it has been selected as the preferred negotiation partner for the exclusive domestic distribution rights of "Nezha 2," a flagship animated film produced by ENLIGHT MEDIA, a leading Chinese media and entertainment company.
This selection is expected to serve as an important bridgehead for introducing blockbuster films and animations that represent China, including the globally successful "Nezha" series, to the domestic market. If a contract is signed in the future, NSE&M will secure comprehensive business rights, including domestic distribution, both online and offline distribution, and various ancillary businesses.
An NSE&M representative explained, "'Nezha 2' has already received widespread acclaim in the global market for its spectacular visuals, solid storyline, and content that combines the world of traditional Chinese mythology. Our proven business capabilities and unique distribution network have been recognized, leading to our selection as the preferred negotiation partner."
In fact, "Nezha 2" has surpassed a cumulative box office revenue of 15.91 billion yuan (approximately 3.098 trillion KRW), setting the record for the highest box office gross in China. The total audience has also exceeded 324 million people.
ENLIGHT MEDIA, established in 1998, is a listed company that has led the Chinese media and entertainment industry. It continues to expand collaborations with major Asian countries such as Korea and strengthen joint marketing and distribution strategies with excellent overseas partners. The company is considered one of Asia’s largest comprehensive content groups, having distributed more than 120 box office hits in film, drama, and animation, with a cumulative box office revenue of 63 billion yuan (approximately 12 trillion KRW).
In particular, "Nezha: Birth of the Demon Child" (the first installment), released in 2019, achieved a box office revenue of 5 billion yuan, becoming the highest-grossing Chinese animated film of all time and ranking third among all films in China. ENLIGHT MEDIA has several subsidiaries covering the entire media value chain, including film, animation, drama, talent and music agencies, and production bases. Leveraging its unique brand and powerful production and distribution infrastructure, the company undertakes more than 15 major projects annually and is actively building new intellectual property (IP) such as the "Chinese Mythology Universe."
NSE&M believes that being selected as the preferred negotiation partner will create significant added value for the domestic content industry as well as the theater, platform, and online video service (OTT) markets.
A senior NSE&M official stated, "Together with ENLIGHT MEDIA, we plan to introduce top-tier Chinese content to the domestic market and actively develop differentiated ancillary business models. We will continue to drive content innovation in the domestic media market through various global projects, including Korea-China content co-productions and the introduction of overseas IP."
