On July 30, Jeollanam-do announced that it will provide 1,400 "Hi-Pass terminals for persons with disabilities" free of charge, in cooperation with the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of Korea Expressway Corporation, to ensure safe and comfortable expressway use for people with disabilities.
This year, the number of terminals has been increased by 100 compared to last year in order to benefit more people with disabilities. For standard terminals, 60,000 KRW is supported, and for fingerprint recognition terminals, 112,000 KRW is supported.
The recipients are persons with disabilities registered in the Jeollanam-do area who possess an Integrated Welfare Card for the Disabled, or vehicles registered under the name of a guardian listed together on the resident registration. However, those who have received a Hi-Pass terminal subsidy within the past five years are excluded from eligibility.
The application period runs from August 1 until all units are distributed. Applicants must prepare their Integrated Welfare Card for the Disabled, vehicle registration certificate, and identification, and apply in person at one of the 52 tollgate offices of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of Korea Expressway Corporation.
After receiving the terminal, fingerprint registration can be completed by visiting one of the seven branch offices under the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of Korea Expressway Corporation or any Eup, Myeon, or Dong Administrative Welfare Center in Jeollanam-do.
Bae Sungjin, Director of the Welfare for the Disabled Division of Jeollanam-do, stated, "The free provision of expressway Hi-Pass terminals is intended to improve mobility convenience for people with disabilities," and added, "We will continue to do our best to enhance welfare for people with disabilities through ongoing cooperation with relevant organizations."
Currently, Jeollanam-do is the first in the nation to launch the free Hi-Pass terminal support project for people with disabilities in cooperation with the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of Korea Expressway Corporation, starting in 2015, and has provided a total of 11,415 terminals as of last year.
