On July 30, Gyeonggi Province announced the designation of the Osan Oesammi 1 District as an urban development zone and the establishment of its development plan. As a result, systematic development around Seodongtan Station is expected to revitalize the surrounding area.
This urban development project aims to construct 1,472 apartment units and mixed-use buildings on a site of 116,000 square meters in Oesammi-dong, Osan City, with completion targeted for 2029.
As the area is adjacent to Dongtan New Town and is experiencing increasing development pressure, it is expected to be transformed into an urban space where residential, commercial, self-sufficient facilities, and transportation infrastructure are harmoniously integrated, especially considering the activation of Seodongtan Station upon the opening of the Indeogwon?Dongtan double-track railway.
In particular, a new four-lane boulevard will be constructed to connect directly to Seodongtan Station within the project site, and the width of Buksammi-ro on the east side of the site will be expanded from 15 meters to 28 meters. These improvements are expected to significantly enhance traffic conditions concentrated around Seodongtan Station.
Gyeonggi Province completed the designation of the urban development zone through consultations with relevant agencies and deliberation by the Urban Planning Committee to ensure the smooth progress of the project.
In particular, a comprehensive development strategy was established, including the formation of a transportation and daily life axis centered on Seodongtan Station, pedestrian-oriented spatial layout, and plans to attract mixed-use and office facilities to strengthen self-sufficiency functions.
The development plan includes: ▲creation of mixed-use land ▲securing self-sufficient facilities ▲construction of pedestrian-only roads and parking lots ▲installation of public transportation stops ▲reorganization of the road system. Sequential development will proceed following approval of the implementation plan and commencement of construction.
Son Imseong, Director of Urban Housing at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "With the designation of the Oesammi 1 District urban development zone, we will actively work to improve the quality of life for residents and promote balanced regional development by developing the area around Seodongtan Station, which has been relatively underdeveloped compared to Dongtan New Town."
