Gyeonggi Province Seizes and Auctions Construction Equipment to Collect 1.79 Billion Won from Major Tax Delinquents

Gyeonggi Province conducted joint on-site search and collection activities with city and county governments targeting 274 construction equipment businesses with long-term local tax arrears, collecting a total of 1.79 billion won in overdue taxes.

From March to June this year, Gyeonggi Province searched the business sites of 274 delinquent taxpayers and seized 1,012 out of a total of 1,451 construction machines. Among these, the amount collected through the seizure of 485 machines owned by 88 delinquent taxpayers was 1.79 billion won. Fifteen pieces of construction equipment, including drilling machines, excavators, and forklifts, were towed on site, and six machines owned by taxpayers with no intention to pay were disposed of through public auction.

Construction Machinery and Equipment Seized by Gyeonggi Province

Gyeonggi Province prioritized construction equipment rental companies with high sales as primary investigation targets. In cases where delinquent taxpayers submitted installment payment plans, the province deferred public auctions of equipment in order to minimize the impact on business operations.

Gyeonggi Province will continue the investigation until November, targeting the remaining 186 delinquent taxpayers and 966 construction machines. In particular, the province will also pursue tracking of equipment owned by closed corporations and machines that have not yet been identified.

Noh Seungho, Director of the Tax Justice Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will respond strictly to tax evasion, while also providing opportunities for taxpayers facing economic hardship to recover, thereby realizing substantive tax justice."
