The "Traditional Market Air Cooler Support Project," which aims to invigorate traditional markets and increase customer dwell time by intensively placing portable air coolers along main pathways, has received positive feedback from both merchants and citizens visiting the markets.

Starting from July 20, Daejeon City has installed and operated a total of 82 portable air coolers at Jungang Market and Doma Large Market for approximately 40 days, as the full summer heat begins.

This pilot operation covers 10 markets within the Jungang Market Revitalization Zone and Doma Large Market. After on-site inspections and consultations with merchant associations, Daejeon City has placed a total of 82 air coolers along key passageways.

Market merchants have also responded positively to this measure. One merchant stated, "Customers who used to leave because of the heat now feel the cool breeze and return to the market," adding, "As a merchant, I am very satisfied because I can do business in a more comfortable environment."

Kwon Kyungmin, Director of Economic Affairs for Daejeon City, said, "We will continue to provide unwavering support so that traditional markets can become comfortable and safe spaces for citizens." He emphasized, "This air cooler project will not remain a one-off effort. We will establish a system for long-term use by transitioning to a model where district offices directly purchase and operate the air coolers."
