Korea Consumer Agency's June Survey on Wedding Service Prices
Gangnam at 33.36 Million Won... Three Times Higher Than Gyeongsang Province
Median Meal Cost per Person at 58,000 Won
"Only 36.1% of Businesses Disclose Price Information"
Last month, the average cost of wedding services nationwide was found to be 20,740,000 won. In particular, there was a significant regional disparity, with costs in Gangnam, Seoul being about three times higher than those in Gyeongsang Province.
On July 29, the Korea Consumer Agency announced the results of a survey conducted on 364 wedding venues and 151 wedding planning agencies in 40 cities across 14 regions nationwide. The total average cost of wedding services contracted last month was 20,740,000 won, a 1.3% decrease compared to the previous month.
By region, Gangnam in Seoul was the most expensive at 33,360,000 won, followed by other areas in Seoul (27,030,000 won) and Gyeonggi Province (18,810,000 won). The lowest average cost was found in Gyeongsang Province at 11,530,000 won.
The median price for wedding venues, including rental fees, meal costs, and basic decorations, was 15,600,000 won, a 0.3% increase from the previous month. By region, Gangnam in Seoul was the highest at 28,900,000 won, followed by other areas in Seoul (21,750,000 won) and Jeju Island (17,020,000 won). Busan had the lowest median price at 7,750,000 won.
The median rental fee for wedding venues was 3,000,000 won, unchanged from the previous month. The highest prices were in Gangnam, Seoul (6,900,000 won), other areas in Seoul (5,500,000 won), and Ulsan (4,000,000 won). The lowest was in Jeju Island (900,000 won).
The median meal cost, which accounts for 73% of wedding venue expenses, was 11,800,000 won. The median cost per person was 58,000 won. By region, Gangnam in Seoul was the highest at 83,000 won per person, followed by other areas in Seoul (72,000 won) and Gyeonggi Province (62,000 won). Gyeongsang Province was the lowest at 42,000 won per person.
The median price for the studio, dress, and makeup (Seudeume) package was 2,920,000 won. By region, Gwangju was the highest at 3,460,000 won, followed by Jeolla Province (3,430,000 won) and Busan (3,340,000 won). The lowest was Incheon at 2,220,000 won.
It was found that optional items added after signing wedding service contracts are increasing the financial burden on engaged couples. Among wedding venue options, 'wedding day photography' was the most commonly sold (71.7%), with a median price of 800,000 won. The most expensive item was fresh flower decorations at 2,000,000 won.
A representative from the Korea Consumer Agency emphasized, "Only 36.1% of businesses disclose their price information, so efforts from relevant agencies and the industry are needed to promote price transparency."
The Korea Consumer Agency plans to continue conducting monthly surveys on wedding service prices. Detailed results of the survey can be found on the 'Chamgagyeok' website's wedding service bulletin board.
