Police Raid Homes and Offices of Four Gyeonggi Provincial Council Members Over Bribery Allegations

On July 28, the Ansan Sangnok Police Station in Gyeonggi Province conducted search and seizure operations targeting four incumbent provincial council members and one former city council member on charges of bribery.

The provincial council members each represent three separate districts, and the former city council member previously served as chairperson. They are suspected of having received money or entertainment worth tens of millions of won each from an individual identified as Mr. A, who operates a business.

Mr. A has been arrested on charges of offering bribes to Ansan city officials in exchange for favors during the process of establishing the Ansan City Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) project.

The police reportedly discovered indications that Mr. A also lobbied incumbent provincial council members in pursuit of various business interests.
