SK Ecoplant announced on July 28 that it has conducted a site-specific heat illness prevention campaign in preparation for the summer heatwave.

Recently, at the Maegyo Station Pellucid site located in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, SK Ecoplant carried out an on-site inspection for heatwave response and safety accident prevention, along with a heat illness prevention campaign for its members.

Through the campaign, the company checked the implementation status of the five key rules for heat illness prevention on site: water, shade, rest, cooling equipment, and emergency measures.

The five key rules for heat illness prevention are considered fundamental for preventing heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and heat exhaustion during heatwave work (when the perceived temperature is 31 degrees Celsius or higher). SK Ecoplant is strengthening concentrated management during the hottest hours, measuring perceived temperature, and monitoring health conditions. The company is also taking site- and task-specific measures to ensure that no harm comes to its members.

At worksites with high exposure to heatwaves, the company is supporting members by implementing shift work, measuring body temperature every hour, installing and operating mobile shaded areas and health buses, and operating localized cooling systems to lower perceived temperatures and help workers recover their condition. For outdoor workers, functional protective equipment such as ice vests and safety helmets with built-in ice packs are also being provided.

In addition, measures for foreign workers have been strengthened. The company closely manages and monitors health conditions before work and during the hottest hours, distributes multilingual heat illness prevention guides, and posts banners and posters throughout the site to address potential blind spots.

Furthermore, SK Ecoplant held an internal contest to discover creative ideas and cases for heat illness prevention during the hot season and to encourage participation in the campaign among its members. Outstanding ideas included a "rest area hammock-style bed," a "mobile QR-based self-certification system for break times," and a "heat illness golden bell quiz."

An SK Ecoplant official said, "As the frequency of heatwaves increases due to climate change, the importance of preventing heat-related illnesses is growing. Considering the characteristics of our sites, which involve high-intensity labor and a large amount of outdoor work, we will continue to establish various response systems so that our members can work safely and healthily."
