Implementation of Autonomous Driving Functions for Open Fields
Using 3D Cameras, LiDAR, and Dual RTK
Daedong Robotics, the AI robotics subsidiary of Daedong Group, announced on July 28 that it has officially launched a government-certified autonomous transport robot, marking a full-scale entry into the domestic smart agriculture market.
This autonomous transport robot has received certification as an "autonomous agricultural powered transporter" from the Korea Institute of Agricultural Technology Promotion. Building on the wired (wire-following) transport robot released in February, it has been upgraded with a 3D camera, obstacle-detection LiDAR, and dual RTK antennas, enabling it to autonomously recognize its surroundings and navigate with high precision. In addition, a wireless remote control allows for easy movement and cargo bed operation, enhancing user convenience. The application of a three-sided open deck further improves the efficiency of loading and unloading cargo.
This robot can be remotely controlled via the dedicated app "Daedong Robot Service," which allows users to check its real-time location, change departure points, adjust speed, set routes and stops, and access various other features. Autonomous driving functions can be set and operated either through the app or using a dedicated control switch on the robot itself. Additionally, with the shared control function, multiple users can each register and use a single robot independently.
Through the app, users can register up to 10 autonomous driving routes and designate up to 11 stops, enabling tailored autonomous transport according to work requirements. Even during autonomous operation, it is possible to change the destination, move stops, or return, so workers only need to load or unload cargo at designated points. This helps reduce both the labor intensity and repetitive tasks involved in agricultural work.
This product is available for purchase at over 150 Daedong dealerships nationwide, and a rental service is currently being piloted to improve accessibility. Yeo Jungoo, CEO of Daedong Robotics, stated, "The autonomous transport robot is the starting point for introducing AI robotics technology into Korean agricultural sites, ushering in the era of smart agriculture. Recently, we have also successfully validated our technology at overseas farms and are now pursuing international expansion," adding, "We will continue to expand our AI robotics business beyond agriculture into various other industries."
Meanwhile, since its official entry into the agricultural robotics market in February, Daedong Robotics has been rapidly advancing the sophistication of its transport robots. In addition to autonomous driving capabilities, the company is developing multifunctional robots that support AI-based voice recognition control and various tasks such as pest control and weeding. Moving forward, Daedong Robotics plans to continuously introduce field-customized smart agriculture solutions and expand its product lineup.
