Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) is attracting public attention by launching retro-themed commemorative goods to mark the 40th anniversary of the city subway's opening.
The corporation will operate a pop-up store under the theme "40 Years with the City Subway, a Future with Citizens" on the basement first floor of Lotte Department Store Busan Main Branch until August 17.
Busan Transportation Corporation operates a pop-up store on the basement first floor of Lotte Department Store Busan Main Branch under the theme "40 Years with Urban Rail, a Future Together with Citizens."
The store features 40th anniversary commemorative goods, a photo zone inspired by the old train cars of Busan Line 1, and a promotional zone where visitors can explore the history and transformation of the Busan city subway.
In addition to the pop-up store, commemorative goods can also be purchased from dedicated vending machines installed at Busan Station, Gwangan Station, and Sports Complex Station. The goods include a total of 13 items: a "Bugi" doll dressed in 1980s and 1990s uniforms, a 40th anniversary station nameplate paperweight, a nostalgic pole sign acrylic ruler, and a Line 1 train cutter knife, among others. Some products are made using recycled plastic, recycled paper, and discontinued paper tickets.
In March this year, the corporation began selling official goods at "Train Mates" in Seoul Station and Busan Station for high-speed rail, drawing attention from railway enthusiasts and citizens. The current retro goods are also designed to evoke nostalgia among those who remember the city subway and to allow people to celebrate the 40th anniversary in their daily lives.
President Lee Byungjin said, "We prepared commemorative goods and a pop-up store to reflect on the Busan city subway, which has been by citizens' side for 40 years, and to pledge another 40 years together with citizens. We hope this will serve as an opportunity to increase citizens' affection and interest in the city subway."
