Seongbuk-gu Benchmarked for ICT-Based Administrative Services by Japan's Korea Advanced Informatization Society Study Delegation

Japanese business leaders have reached out to Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, to benchmark leading cases of introducing the latest information and communication technology (ICT) in the field of public administration.

On July 27, Seongbuk-gu announced that on July 24, a group called the "Korea Advanced Informatization Society Study Delegation," composed of Japanese businesspeople, visited the district to benchmark major ICT policies, including the establishment of an e-government system and a closed-circuit (CC) TV control center.


The delegation consisted of 24 members, including Professor Yeom Jongsoon of Meiji University, Matsuzaki Maki, CEO of Shinseishi Co., Ltd., and Uchida Katsuya, Professor Emeritus at the Graduate School of Information Security.


After meeting with Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seungro, the delegation received an explanation about the district's informatization operations and the management of the control center. Seongbuk-gu enhanced the delegation's understanding by providing a detailed explanation of e-government operations, including a demonstration.


Subsequently, the delegation visited the control center and the civil service desk inside the government building to observe the actual use of information and communication technology. The delegation showed great interest, asking various questions comparing the Korean site with those in Japan.


Mayor Lee Seungro stated, "The e-government system and control center are the foundation of local government operations in Korea, and Seongbuk-gu is taking the lead in utilizing them to provide better administrative services to residents. I hope that Seongbuk-gu's challenges and initiatives will offer much help and inspiration to Japanese companies."


The Korea Advanced Informatization Society Study Delegation is a project that began in 2002 as part of the Internet Columbus Project, led by Professor Yeom Jongsoon. The project benchmarks domestic public institutions and ICT companies to integrate Korea's outstanding technologies into Japan and support investment attraction.
