Choi Jaehun, Head of Dalseong-gun, Also Joins Recovery Efforts
"I Hope the Damage Is Quickly Restored"
The Dalseong-gun Volunteer Center in Daegu (headed by Song Jonggu) carried out volunteer activities on July 26 to assist with flood recovery efforts in the Gahoe-myeon area of Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, which suffered severe damage due to heavy rainfall.
From July 17 to July 19, Hapcheon-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do experienced a record-breaking downpour, with an average rainfall of 502mm and a maximum of 712mm over three days. As a result, 723 residents were evacuated, 271 public facilities, 320 houses, and 965 hectares of farmland were flooded, leading to the area being declared a special disaster zone.
Volunteers from Dalseong County, Daegu, are removing mud at a greenhouse in Hapcheon County, Gyeongnam, which suffered from flooding. Choi Jaehun, the governor of Dalseong County, Daegu, also participated in this flood recovery work.
In response, the Dalseong-gun Volunteer Center in Daegu formed a volunteer team centered around 80 members from the Integrated Volunteer Support Group. They supported recovery efforts in the affected area, including organizing flooded agricultural facilities and supplies, and collecting debris.
On the same day, Choi Jaehun, the head of Dalseong-gun in Daegu, also participated in the recovery work alongside the volunteers. Choi Jaehun stated, "I would like to express my condolences to the residents who are suffering from this unexpected flood disaster. Working together with the volunteers in the field, I was once again reminded of the importance of solidarity and cooperation between regions. I hope the damage is quickly restored so that residents can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
Song Jonggu, head of the Dalseong-gun Volunteer Center, said, "The pain of our neighbor Hapcheon-gun is also the pain of Dalseong. I hope that every drop of sweat shed by the volunteers at the flood recovery site will bring some comfort to the affected residents. We will continue to rush to any place in need of help in the future."
Meanwhile, the Integrated Volunteer Support Group of the Dalseong-gun Volunteer Center has continued to provide practical support based on a prompt response and systematic volunteer management system in the event of disasters. This flood recovery effort in Hapcheon once again demonstrated the strength of public-private cooperation.
