Damyang County Launches Campaign to Inspect and Crack Down on Harmful Environments for Youth

Damyang County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Jeong Cheolwon) announced on July 26 that, in response to the summer vacation season, a joint public-private inspection and campaign against harmful environments for youth was conducted on July 24 to promote healthy leisure activities among adolescents.

This campaign was carried out mainly in the downtown area of Damyang-eup to inspect the operation of businesses frequently visited by adolescents during the vacation and school break season. It was organized to block harmful environments and to prevent delinquency and misconduct among youth.

Five organizations, including Damyang County, Damyang Police Station, Damyang Office of Education, Youth Harmful Environment Monitoring Group, and Damyang Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, jointly visited establishments such as alcohol and tobacco retailers and PC rooms. They conducted youth protection activities, including prohibiting the sale of harmful items to adolescents, attaching stickers, and requesting that PC rooms prohibit entry to youth after 10 p.m.

The inspection and crackdown on youth harmful environments will continue until August 15. For businesses found violating the Youth Protection Act, corrective measures will be imposed, and in cases of non-compliance with corrective orders, fines will be levied in stages.

Seo Saenghyeon, head of the Damyang Youth Harmful Environment Monitoring Group, stated, "We will take the lead in improving harmful environments through continuous inspections in cooperation with the public and private sectors so that adolescents can spend the summer in a healthy and safe manner."
