Yeongju City Launches 'Cooling Fog' at Yeongju Station Square to Beat the Heat

Full Operation of Mist-Type Cooling Facility
Providing a Rest Area for Citizens

Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province has begun operating a 'cooling fog (mist-type cooling facility)' installed at Yeongju Station Square to respond to the summer heat wave.

Yeongju City is cooling down the heat by operating cooling fog at the shade facility in Yeongju Station Plaza.

This project was carried out over two months from June to July, using a special disaster relief fund of 100 million won allocated for heat wave countermeasures. The installed cooling fog system is mounted inside the shading facility and operates by automatically detecting temperature and humidity. It is a smart cooling system that sprays fine water mist to lower the surrounding temperature.

The operating period is from May to October each year, and the system runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, repeating a cycle of spraying for 10 minutes followed by a 5-minute break. Yeongju City plans to use tap water and regularly inspect the filters to maintain clean water quality, ensuring that citizens can use the facility with peace of mind.

Kang Sikhyeok, head of the Safety and Disaster Division, stated, "The cooling fog will serve as a shelter from the heat in the city center," and added, "We will continue to expand heat wave response projects that are highly effective for citizens."
