Minister Yoon Ho-joong Vows to Achieve Disaster Safety, Livelihood Recovery, and an AI-Driven Government

Yoon Ho-joong Pledges to Restore Public Trust Through Disaster Safety, Livelihood Recovery, and an AI-Driven Government
Promises to Rebuild Local Economies and Lead the Transition to an 'AI Democratic Government'

Minister of the Interior and Safety, Yoon Ho-joong, stated in his inaugural address that he would fulfill his responsibilities by focusing on three key areas: disaster safety, recovery of livelihoods, and an AI-driven government.

At his inauguration ceremony held at the Government Complex Sejong on July 25, Minister Yoon said, "The peaceful daily lives of our citizens are being threatened by low growth and economic stagnation, population decline, the deepening polarization between the capital and non-capital regions, the crisis of regional extinction, and unpredictable extreme weather and new and complex disasters. To address these challenges, I promise three things."

First, Minister Yoon pledged to fulfill the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s fundamental responsibility of overseeing disaster safety. He said, "To ensure proactive disaster response and safety management, we will re-examine all elements, from on-site inspections and improvement of response systems to nurturing industries and personnel. Above all, by empathizing with the pain of victims, those affected, and bereaved families of various disasters and accidents, and by listening carefully to each and every voice, we will work to restore the public's trust in the government."

He also expressed his commitment to restoring livelihoods and advancing local autonomy. Minister Yoon said, "We will cooperate with local governments, businesses, and citizens, and use fiscal resources as a catalyst to revive a virtuous economic cycle. The livelihood recovery consumption coupons and regional love gift certificates will help restore depressed consumer sentiment and provide much-needed relief to struggling local businesses and small merchants."

Regarding regional policies, he added, "By trusting in the capabilities of local communities and residents and boldly delegating policy decision-making authority, we will realize a mature local autonomy where central and local governments jointly address national issues and residents solve local problems on their own. We will fundamentally reform various balanced development policies so that regions facing extinction can overcome chronic existential crises and balanced growth can be achieved nationwide."

He also reiterated his long-standing emphasis on building an 'AI democratic government.' Minister Yoon stated, "Even if our start was somewhat late, if the public and private sectors join forces to establish strategic investment plans and execute them swiftly, we can leap forward to become the world's leading AI democratic government. Let us pledge together that the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will take the lead in spearheading the transition to public AI, maximizing government capabilities and efficiency, and becoming the epicenter and origin of a fundamental transformation in public administration."

Finally, Minister Yoon said, "I want to create a society where the basic conditions for a good life are guaranteed for all citizens, and where every single person can be happy. I will do my utmost so that the Ministry of the Interior and Safety can truly be reborn as the 'Ministry of Happiness and Safety,' responsible for the happiness and safety of the people."
