Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Begins Direct Supply of Renewable Energy to Industrial Complexes

Supplying Solar Energy to Export Companies in Namdong Industrial Complex from August
Leading the Implementation of RE100 Industrial Complex

The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation announced on July 25 that it has signed a direct PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) for renewable energy supply with manufacturing companies in the industrial complex at the Namdong Knowledge Industry Center in Incheon, and held a completion ceremony for the solar power plant built for this purpose.

The corporation explained that this is a case where a public institution, rather than a power generation public enterprise, has proactively responded to global carbon regulations and supported manufacturing companies in transitioning to clean energy.

This project was promoted through the "Incheon Namdong Energy Self-Sufficiency Infrastructure Construction and Operation Project" by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Incheon Metropolitan City. The corporation installed solar power facilities in its owned buildings and will produce approximately 1,535 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy annually. This is enough electricity to power about 400 households for one year.

The renewable energy produced here will be supplied from August to four export companies?EOS, Boseong Metal Industry, Korea Material, and Hwashin High Steel?in the Namdong National Industrial Complex, through brokerage by KT, which operates a carbon neutrality platform. This direct PPA is a contract model in which the power producer sells electricity directly to consumers without going through Korea Electric Power Corporation. It is attracting attention as an effective energy supply model for responding to RE100 (100% renewable energy use) and reducing electricity costs.

The corporation plans to expand the renewable energy supply project to industrial complexes under its jurisdiction nationwide, starting with this successful case in the Namdong National Industrial Complex, to support carbon neutrality and RE100 implementation in industrial complexes, as well as the sustainable growth of tenant companies.

Lee Sanghoon, President of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, said, "This project is an important milestone in which the public sector builds solar power facilities and supplies clean energy to manufacturing companies." He added, "Going forward, we will provide the experience and expertise needed to manage and support RE100 industrial complexes, leading the public-driven energy transition of industrial complexes."
