Culture Ministry Calls for Proposals to Diversify K-Content Revenue Structure with AI-Based Projects

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 25th that, together with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), it will launch the 'K-Content Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation Leading Project.'

This project strategically supports pioneering initiatives that can diversify the revenue structure of 'K-Content' and strengthen its global competitiveness, based on the AI technologies that are spreading across the entire content industry. It will be carried out with 21 billion KRW secured through the second supplementary budget for 2025.

While the 'AI Content Production Support Project (24.5 billion KRW)', which is being implemented with the 2025 main budget and the first supplementary budget, mainly focuses on the production stage, the Leading Project centers on supporting the entire content industry production cycle, from planning and production to distribution and promotion. The Ministry stated that it plans to discover initiatives that create new business models by considering not only short-term production support but also the potential for overseas market expansion and industrial impact from the initial planning stage.

In addition, unlike existing projects that are usually carried out by individual companies, the Leading Project will require participation in the form of consortia composed of large and mid-sized enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises, and startups. The Ministry explained that the purpose is to foster a mutually beneficial and co-prosperous ecosystem suitable for the AI era by encouraging cooperation among large and mid-sized enterprises with key assets such as intellectual property (IP) and distribution networks, startups with AI technologies related to content, and small and medium-sized content production, distribution, and sales companies.

More detailed information about the public call and application procedures can be found in the 'Notices - Support Announcements' section of the KOCCA website from 11:00 a.m. on the 25th. Selected projects will proceed with their tasks until May of the following year after signing an agreement.

The Ministry also announced plans to hold an 'AI Content Festival' at the end of this year to share success stories of outstanding content companies participating in the main and first supplementary budget projects, and to support exchanges between companies based on these achievements.

A policy official from the Ministry stated, "It is time to embrace the AI transition as a new opportunity for K-Content and prepare for the next leap forward," adding, "We will actively support large, mid-sized, small, and startup companies to work as a team and propose business models targeting the global stage."
