"I Want Every Company in America to Thrive"
US President Donald Trump has sent a conciliatory message to Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, who was once one of his closest confidants.
On the 24th (local time), President Trump wrote on Truth Social, "People say that I will destroy Elon's companies by taking away some or all of the large subsidies he receives from the US government," and added, "This is not true."
Previously, President Trump had harshly criticized CEO Musk after he opposed a large-scale tax cut bill dubbed the 'big and beautiful single bill.' Trump warned that he could consider cutting off government subsidies to Musk's businesses, canceling government contracts, and even going so far as to expel CEO Musk.
During the Trump administration's second term, CEO Musk, who led federal government restructuring and reductions in personnel and spending as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), opposed the bill containing large-scale spending plans on the grounds that it would increase government debt. However, President Trump has argued that CEO Musk's opposition was due to his dissatisfaction with the abolition of electric vehicle incentive policies.
Seemingly dismissing such conflicts, President Trump said on Truth Social, "I want Elon, as well as every company in our country, to thrive?more than ever before." He continued, "The better they do, the better America does, and that's good for all of us," emphasizing, "We are breaking records every day, and I want to keep it that way."
President Trump's rather sudden message to CEO Musk appears to be not unrelated to his recent political troubles stemming from the 'Epstein allegations.' Last month, CEO Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter) implying that President Trump was involved in Jeffrey Epstein's sex scandal, but later attempted to reconcile, saying he had gone too far. However, when the Trump administration pushed ahead with the tax cut bill, Musk announced the formation of a new party and resumed his criticism of President Trump over the Epstein allegations.
