Orion Finds Mold in Some ChamBungeoppang Products, Initiates Voluntary Recall

On July 24, Orion announced, "Cases of mold have been confirmed in some ChamBungeoppang products," and added, "Prioritizing consumer safety, we have decided to voluntarily recall all products currently distributed in the market, worth approximately 1.5 billion KRW." On the same day, Orion requested major distribution channels to halt sales of ChamBungeoppang products and immediately reported the matter to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

According to Orion, the recall targets products manufactured before July 23, 2025. The 'ChamBungeoppang Custard Cream Flavor,' which is produced on a different manufacturing line, is excluded from the recall. Orion stated that as of the afternoon of July 23, after inspecting 3,624 products currently being sold in the market, no products with mold were found.

Orion explained, "The decision to recall the products was made because an unusual total of seven consumer reports were received this week." The company further stated, "Our internal analysis confirmed that the mold found in the products is not harmful to humans, but we have requested an external agency to conduct a more precise examination." Orion has already completed improvement measures for the packaging line where the issue occurred.

An Orion representative said, "Taking this incident as an opportunity, we have begun an inspection of the entire ChamBungeoppang production process supplied domestically," and added, "We plan to resume production from August 1 after completing the inspection and verifying safety. We reflect on the shortcomings in our production process management and quality inspection procedures, and we will rigorously and thoroughly manage everything from raw materials to the production process and finished products to prevent recurrence in the future."
