On July 24, Jeollanam-do announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for a livestock manure solid fuel production facility with an annual production capacity of 5,700 tons at the Suncheon-Gwangyang Livestock Cooperative Livestock Circulation Resource Center, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by converting livestock manure into energy.
More than 100 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including Kim Jonggu, Director General for Food Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; Park Hyunsik, Director General of Agriculture, Livestock and Food at Jeollanam-do; Jeong Gwanghyeon, Deputy Mayor of Suncheon; National Assembly member Joo Cheolhyeon; as well as related officials, livestock farmers, and local residents.
The Suncheon-Gwangyang Livestock Cooperative livestock manure solid fuel production facility will be completed by the end of this year with an investment of 4.1 billion won.
Using approximately 17,500 tons of livestock manure annually from 49 Hanwoo and beef cattle farms, the facility will produce 5,700 tons of solid fuel. The produced solid fuel will be supplied as an eco-friendly energy source to facilities that generate electric energy, such as renewable energy power plants.
Park Hyunsik, Director General of Agriculture, Livestock and Food at Jeollanam-do, stated, "The Suncheon-Gwangyang Livestock Cooperative's livestock manure solid fuel production facility will mark a new turning point in converting livestock manure into renewable energy in Korea," and added, "We will faithfully fulfill the national tasks of establishing a virtuous cycle structure for livestock, environment, and energy, and achieving sustainable livestock farming and carbon neutrality."
