Call for Investigation into Violation of Rights of 140,000 Police Officers
The National Police Workplace Council announced on July 24 that it had filed a complaint with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials against four senior officials of the National Police Agency, including Yoo Jaesung, the acting Commissioner General, on charges of obstruction of business, abuse of authority, and dereliction of duty.
In a press release issued on the same day, the Police Workplace Council stated, "Officials at the National Police Agency systematically obstructed the legitimate activities of the council and paralyzed its functions," and urged a thorough investigation and strict punishment.
This complaint was filed in response to the National Police Agency's unilateral closure of the council's office, which had been in use for over two years, as well as measures such as blocking access to the Polnet accounts used freely by 140,000 police officers.
The council explained that it had submitted eight types of supporting documents, including the Public Officials' Council Act rulebook, the enforcement decree collection, the status of the council office openings, documents requesting office access and consultation, and materials related to major meetings and the election of representatives.
