Gyeonggi Province Deploys 760 Volunteers for Flood Recovery in Gapyeong County

Starting on July 23, Gyeonggi Province will sequentially deploy approximately 760 volunteer workers to assist with flood recovery efforts in the Jojong-myeon area of Gapyeong County. The volunteer activities will focus on flooded areas, including the Daebo 2-ri village hall and residential homes in Jojong-myeon, Gapyeong County.

Gyeonggi Province announced that, in order to help affected residents return to their daily lives, it will mobilize around 760 people, including Gyeonggi provincial government employees and personnel from volunteer centers in 14 cities and counties such as Yeoncheon, Anseong, and Yangju, to carry out recovery work through July 31.

This initiative is being organized and overseen by the Gyeonggi Province Volunteer Center, which coordinates with city and county volunteer centers to allocate locations and personnel according to on-site needs.

On the first day, 60 members of the Gyeonggi provincial government volunteer corps assisted with disaster recovery by clearing household goods from flooded homes, removing debris, collecting waste materials, and restoring farmland.

Gyeonggi Province also plans to provide practical support for disaster victims, such as meal services, water supply, and laundry, after identifying necessary locations including shelters for displaced residents.

Daebo 2-ri in Jojong-myeon, Gapyeong County, is home to a total of 103 households and 164 residents, and suffered flood damage to homes, vehicles, and other property during the recent heavy rains.

Previously, on July 20, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon visited Daebo Bridge in Sang-myeon, Gapyeong County, and on July 22, he again visited flood-affected sites in Gapyeong County to inspect the search for missing persons and assess resident damage. In addition to requesting that Gapyeong County and Pocheon City be designated as "special disaster zones," he also directed that Gyeonggi Province's "Daily Life Recovery Support Fund" be provided to small business owners in the affected areas.

Following Governor Kim Dongyeon's instructions, small business owners in Gapyeong County and other areas severely affected by the recent torrential rains will receive 6 million won plus additional support, farmers will receive up to 10 million won for demolition and related costs, and bereaved families of those who lost their lives will be provided with 30 million won for funeral expenses and other support.
