Test Buildings and Business Spaces to Be Built in Phases at Galsan Industrial Complex in Hongseong by 2026
Establishing a K-Fire Safety Industry Cluster
Chungnam Province is accelerating efforts to establish the nation’s only specialized promotion facility for the fire safety industry. The total project cost amounts to 14 billion won (7 billion won from the national government, 3.5 billion won from the province, and 3.5 billion won from the county).
On July 23, the province held a progress review meeting for the “Fire Safety Industry Promotion Facility Support Project” in the small conference room at the provincial government building, sharing the current status and future plans for the project.
More than 20 people attended the meeting, including Shin Dongheon, Director General of the Provincial Autonomy and Safety Bureau, as well as officials from the province, Hongseong County, and representatives from the project implementing organizations.
The project is being carried out by several organizations: the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR), Hoseo University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, Chungnam Technopark, and the Korea Testing Certification Industry Association. Each organization is working in various fields, including equipment installation, technology commercialization, domestic and international standards analysis, and export strategy guidance.
In particular, KTR presented on testing and certification evaluations for fire safety products, equipment operation rates, network activities, and technology commercialization support. The Hoseo University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation shared plans for test evaluation design based on analysis of domestic and international fire cases and standards.
Chungnam Technopark is supporting employee training and consulting, while the Korea Testing Certification Industry Association is analyzing global technical regulations and proposing export strategies.
Last year, the province was selected for a Ministry of the Interior and Safety public contest project and is now the only region in the country building a promotion facility specialized in the fire safety industry.
The facility is being constructed in the Galsan-myeon General Industrial Complex in Hongseong County, with a total site area of 20,691 square meters. By 2026, core infrastructure such as the first and second test buildings, material evaluation building, and business occupancy spaces will be completed in phases.
Shin Dongheon, Director General of the Autonomy and Safety Bureau, stated, “Based on the fire safety industry promotion facility, the province will create a cluster that leads the K-Fire Safety Industry,” adding, “We will spare no effort to support the facility so that it can become a trusted certification and demonstration hub for domestic and international companies.”
