A Strategic Hub Covering 1.74 Million Square Meters in Western Busan
Construction to Begin in 2026, Completion Targeted for 2030
Busan Urban Corporation (BMC, President Shin Changho) is accelerating the process of selecting a contractor for the detailed design of the construction work for the "Busan Research and Development Special Zone Advanced Complex District Development Project," which is being jointly promoted with Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).
This project is a large-scale development initiative aimed at creating a strategic industrial hub that integrates advanced industries and research functions, as well as complex functions such as shipbuilding and marine, marine resource bio, ICT, and smart components, on a 1,744,114 square meter site in Daejeo-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan.
Busan Urban Corporation holds a 35% stake in the project and is participating as a joint project implementer together with Korea Land and Housing Corporation.
Of the industrial land, 10.8% is planned as a dedicated complex for fostering small and medium-sized enterprises, which is expected to significantly contribute to establishing a foundation for the growth of local technology-based industries and creating jobs.
The Busan Research and Development Special Zone completed its implementation plan approval and public notice on March 26, and is being promoted with the goal of starting construction in 2026 and completing it by 2030. In the future, it is expected to establish itself as a key base leading balanced development throughout western Busan by linking with major strategic projects such as the new Gadeokdo Airport, the Second Eco Delta City, and the Northeast Asia logistics platform.
Shin Changho, President of Busan Urban Corporation, emphasized, "The development of the Busan Research and Development Special Zone is an opportunity to dramatically transform the industrial landscape of western Busan," and added, "As a public corporation that grows together with Busan citizens, we will continue to take steps toward balanced regional development and fostering future industries."
