Special Safety Inspections of Tower Crane Construction Sites
Within the Railway Protection Zone in Yongin
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will carry out intensive inspections of apartment construction sites adjacent to the Yongin Light Rail Transit to prevent tower crane accidents.
On July 23, Yongin City announced that it would conduct special safety inspections of steep slopes and apartment construction sites within the 'Railway Protection Zone' of the Yongin Light Rail Transit by July 25, to assess safety conditions in response to heavy rains.

The 'Railway Protection Zone' refers to the area within 30 meters of the railway boundary line, as defined by Article 45 of the Railway Safety Act.
This safety inspection will target 13 sites, including 4 apartment construction sites operating large tower cranes and 9 steep slopes, out of the 28 construction sites within the Railway Protection Zone. The purpose is to prevent accidents such as tower crane collapses or retaining wall failures caused by typhoons, strong winds, or heavy rains in advance.
The main inspection items include: ▲compliance with tower crane safety operation regulations ▲installation status of safety devices ▲anchoring of temporary structures ▲measures to prevent falling objects ▲flood control measures in preparation for heavy rainfall ▲management of drainage facilities, among others.
The city will also conduct ongoing monitoring of construction sites using tower cranes, where the risk of secondary accidents is high due to abnormal weather such as strong winds or sudden meteorological changes.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "Through preemptive inspections, we will prevent accidents and establish an effective emergency management system with construction sites to ensure a swift response in the event of unforeseen disasters."
