Culture Ministry to Distribute 4.5 Million Movie Ticket Discount Vouchers Worth 6,000 Won Each Starting July 25

'Culture Day' Discounts Can Be Combined
Enjoy Movies for Only 1,000 Won

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on July 23 that, together with the Korean Film Council, it will distribute a total of 4.5 million movie ticket discount vouchers, each worth 6,000 won, starting at 10 a.m. on July 25.

The discount vouchers can be obtained through the websites and apps of multiplex cinemas such as CGV, Lotte Cinema, Megabox, and CineQ, until the prepared quantities are exhausted. As the vouchers are issued on a first-come, first-served basis nationwide, they may run out early depending on the issuance status in each region. Additional vouchers remaining at each cinema will be distributed again in September.

The vouchers can be used immediately for movie ticket reservations without any day-of-week restrictions until September 2. The number of vouchers that can be issued is limited to two per person per participating platform.

In addition to multiplex cinemas, discount vouchers will also be available at independent and art film theaters, small cinemas, and senior cinemas. The list of participating theaters can be checked on the Korean Film Council's website on July 25. In principle, independent and art film theaters will also provide vouchers through their websites, but for theaters where online issuance is not possible due to system limitations, the discount will be offered on-site on a first-come, first-served basis.

The discount vouchers can be combined with existing movie ticket discounts such as 'Culture Day', discounts for people with disabilities, senior discounts, youth discounts, and early-bird discounts. On 'Culture Day', which falls on the last Wednesday of each month when tickets are available for 7,000 won, the government discount of 6,000 won is applied to the ticket price, allowing viewers to watch a movie for 1,000 won. However, if the discount reduces the ticket price to less than 1,000 won, a minimum payment of 1,000 won will be charged to the customer. In addition, partnership card discounts can be combined if the minimum payment requirement set by each card company is met, but telecommunications membership discounts cannot be combined.

A policy official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "With the upcoming summer vacation and holiday season, we hope that moviegoers will enjoy films with this ticket discount support, and that cinemas will regain their vibrancy. The ministry will continue to work to expand cultural enjoyment opportunities and support industry revitalization by reflecting on-site demand."
