Gyeonggi Province to Identify Energy-Vulnerable Groups... First 955 Selected

Gyeonggi Province is launching an initiative to identify energy-vulnerable groups.

On July 23, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had used the Ministry of Health and Welfare's welfare blind spot identification system to select a total of 955 households as the first group for support. These households, living in rental housing and expected to face difficulties during the summer heatwave, were identified based on indicators such as power cut-off, water cut-off, gas cut-off, overdue electricity bills, overdue water bills, and overdue gas bills. The welfare blind spot identification system can collect and analyze 47 types of crisis information from 21 organizations, including health insurance premium arrears, power cut-off, and water cut-off.

Based on this data, Gyeonggi Province plans to work with 31 cities and counties from July to September to verify whether households predicted to be at risk are actually facing crises. For households confirmed to be in crisis, the province will provide welfare services such as basic livelihood security, emergency support, and connections to private resources.

Han Kyungsoo, Director of Welfare Projects at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Considering that this is a period when the vulnerable face increased difficulties due to heat-related illnesses or higher cooling costs, we are making efforts to proactively identify and support welfare blind spots, including energy-vulnerable groups, by utilizing big data on crisis information."
