At around 5:30 p.m. on July 22, a road subsidence (sinkhole) occurred on a road in Hwajeongdong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, causing severe traffic congestion during the evening rush hour.
Seo-gu authorities immediately restricted two lanes in the affected section after the sinkhole, which measures 40 cm deep and 80 cm in diameter, was discovered, and are currently carrying out restoration work.
Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties as a result of this ground subsidence.
An official from Seo-gu stated, "We plan to investigate the exact cause of the sinkhole as soon as the restoration work at the site is completed."
