Korea National Oil Corporation Makes All-Out Efforts to Prevent Heat-Related Illnesses Among Workers Amid Record-Breaking Heatwave

Compliance with the Five Basic Heatwave Safety Rules for All Workers, Including Partner Companies
Advance Distribution of Heatwave Prevention Kits and Provision of Cooling Shelters

Korea National Oil Corporation (President Kim Dongseop) is making every effort to prevent heat-related illnesses among workers, following a special directive from the president in response to the recent record-breaking heatwave.

Previously, the Ministry of Employment and Labor amended the "Regulations on Occupational Safety and Health Standards" to require employers to implement mandatory health measures to protect workers from heatwaves. The revised regulations came into effect on July 17.

The amendments stipulate, among other measures, that when the perceived temperature reaches 33°C or higher, workers must be given a mandatory break of at least 20 minutes every two hours.

Even before these changes, since May, the corporation had already established countermeasures against heat-related illnesses through safety inspections led by the president. As part of these proactive measures, Korea National Oil Corporation began distributing approximately 1,000 heatwave prevention kits?including cooling sleeves and ice packs?to workers at its nine oil storage bases nationwide and to partner company employees. The corporation also regularly inspects cooling shelters installed at all its sites across the country to ensure a safer working environment.

Based on these efforts, Korea National Oil Corporation is strictly adhering to the "Five Basic Safety Rules for Heatwaves," which focus on: ▲providing cool drinking water, ▲ensuring shade and airflow, ▲guaranteeing regular breaks, ▲supplying cooling gear, and ▲preparing for emergencies by enabling immediate calls to 119.

In addition, the corporation is closely monitoring and supervising compliance with the five basic safety rules for heatwaves at all sites nationwide. It is also establishing and continuously managing heat-related illness prevention systems tailored to the specific conditions of each site.

President Kim Dongseop stated, "With this year's unprecedented heatwave expected to continue, we will strengthen compliance with the five basic heatwave safety rules to fundamentally prevent the occurrence of heat-related illnesses among both our employees and those of our partner companies."
